Grüner Jäger – Cultural centre
Since 1938 in the heart of St. Pauli’s Schanze district, the Grüner Jäger has been an institution and a robust place that opens up to the district with clashing cultures with a café, event rooms, bars, club and playground.

Studio Istland created the interior design on the basis of the corporate design to create an experience space with the integration of the needs of the people of the district and the requirements of the operator concept. Natural surfaces are broken up with green color accents and complemented by the abstract deer head as a symbol for this special place.

A conscious use of resources was a maxim in the design of the new spatial concept. Robust and hard-wearing materials such as wood, metal and vegan faux leather were combined with upcycled furniture and modern, new furniture and some design classics such as the Kaiser-Idell lamps.

In cooperation with two local artists from the Millerntor Galerie, the rooms were given an individual character. The multifunctional building with club or concert stage, 2 bars, dance/club area and a sheltered inner courtyard with a connection to the children’s playground was equipped with high-quality sound insulation and a special fire protection concept in line with its use and to protect local residents.
